About this landmark

Olympic bobsleigh track on Trebević

The Olympic bobsleigh track on Trebević is one of the most striking legacies of Sarajevo's 1984 Olympics and today a unique tourist attraction that draws visitors from across the region. Built for the XIV Winter Olympic Games to a design by architect Gorazd Bučar and the German company Dayle, the track is 1,570 meters long and stretches between 982 and 1,108 meters above sea level. It was the most expensive Olympic facility, worth seven million dollars, but also one of the fastest, steepest and safest tracks in the world — a standard that after Sarajevo became the benchmark for bobsleigh track construction worldwide.

At bobsleigh competitions, it drew 30,000 enthusiastic spectators. Today, the track lives a new life — recognizable by the colorful graffiti that decorate its bends, it is a favorite photo spot and a starting point for walks on Trebević. An initiative has been launched for a complete restoration, and nearby are the exit station of the Trebević cable car and cozy venues with views of Sarajevo.
