Despić House is one of the oldest and most beautifully preserved townhouses in Sarajevo, located at Despićeva Street number 2, whose oldest section dates back to the 17th century. Once the home of the wealthy Serbian Orthodox Despić family, who built their considerable family fortune as craftsmen and merchants, the house today functions as an annex of the Museum of Sarajevo and offers a unique insight into the life of Sarajevo's elite in the 19th and early 20th century.
The interior is preserved in its authentic form — wooden bay windows, spacious rooms, furniture, textiles, and personal belongings of the family, including the will of Hadži Makso Despić and the Viennese piano of Vilhelmina Mina Despić. A special place is also given to the exhibition "Hero Walter" about Vladimir Perić, the leader of resistance against the Nazi occupation. And the house holds one historical distinction — it was here that the first theatrical performances in Sarajevo were staged, making it the birthplace of modern Sarajevo theatre.
