About Pogradec

The city by the lake

Pogradec, the picturesque town on the shores of Lake Ohrid in southeastern Albania, is a popular destination for travelers seeking a peaceful escape amidst natural beauty, rich heritage, and warm hospitality.

Pogradec with Lake Ohrid, known for its stunning environment as one of the oldest and deepest lakes in Europe, is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The waters of the lake, surrounded by greenery and majestic mountains, offer endless opportunities for water activities, from swimming and boating to fishing and bird watching. The lake is also home to numerous species of fish, highlighting the koran, the symbol of the city of Pogradec in terms of importance and taste.

Pogradec boasts a fascinating history and a wealth of cultural attractions. Attractions abound in Pogradec, starting from the old town known for its Ottoman and Balkan architecture, the 2400-year-old castle with its unique charm, the royal tombs of Selca, as well as the stilt houses of Lin. In a groundbreaking discovery that has changed the tourist outlook of the village of Lin once and for all, foreign archaeologists have declared the Lin settlement to be the oldest in Europe, over 8500 years old.

Meanwhile, four kilometers east of Pogradec is the tourist spot of Drilon, where nature has not spared its beauty. The numerous decorative trees and various plants are in complete harmony with the crystal waters of the Drilon River, the walking paths, the characteristic wooden bridges and the birds make it one of the most visited places in this city.

Tushemishti, next to the city of Pogradec, has a long beach, which is a magnet for summer vacationers. In the interior of the village there are centuries-old houses, the church of St. Pandelimon, but tourists can also enjoy traditional dishes and the famous apples of the area. One of the most “spicy” things in the interior of the village is the monument of “Teto Ollga”, along with the bust that was built in honor of the actress Violeta Manushi.

In Pogradec you will find a range of accommodation options to suit everyone's preferences and budget. Feel free to visit nearby Tushemishte and Driloni if you are looking to spice up your trip to southeastern Albania.
