Igman is an Olympic mountain south-west of Sarajevo, set beside Bjelašnica and part of Ilidža. Although its highest point of around 1,510 metres ranks it among the lower Sarajevo mountains, it is known for its natural beauty, clean air and high ozone levels, earning it the name „air spa“. During the 14th Winter Olympic Games in 1984, Igman was, alongside Jahorina and Bjelašnica, one of the main venues, hosting the Nordic disciplines and ski jumping.
The most visited areas are Veliko Polje and Malo Polje: Veliko Polje offers some thirty kilometres of cross-country skiing and biathlon trails, while Malo Polje, with its baby lifts and gentle slopes, is ideal for ski schools and first turns on snow. In summer it becomes a paradise for cyclists, hikers and families, with tubing, a year-round chairlift and broad picnic meadows. Igman is an ideal getaway near the city in every season.
